We did it again! Working together for a better world.

With your support, and because you choose to shop for change, Buy The Change was named to the Best For The World List for 2016.

It's our 3rd year in a row.

The list is compiled by BLab, the non-profit organization responsible for conducting indepth assessments of companies applying to be certified as Benefit Corporations. Based on our assessment, we scored 1st in the category of benefit to community and 16th overall for a company our size. This is in a field of over 1800 companies. That is something to be proud of.

It's hard to describe in a blog post how much this means to me as the co-founder and current CEO of Buy The Change.

There is not a day that goes by when I don't ask myself how to do this job better. We are a company founded on a huge amount of passion and not a great deal of business know how. It has been a learning challenge and opportunity since the very first day. We've been at this for almost 5 years and have put well over $150K into the hands of hardworking, talented women around the world. Most of these women live in countries where the average income is less than $2 a day.

It will only go up from here. After traveling the world and meeting many of the women who create products for us, witnessing the challenges they face everyday, seeing the joy they experience when told that women in the United States love the things they make, hearing their stories of resilience and determination, meeting their daughters who are in school because their mothers have earned the funds to pay for it, I can't see ever quitting on this mission to change the world one woman at a time.

Because we are a very small company I have to wear many hats. Sara helps me get orders out, Amy and Kelly help me at vendor shows, our affiliates help spread the word, but here in the office it is me, trying to take Buy The change to the next level.

How to get the word out to new customers, how to sell more products so we can buy more products, how to choose products our customers will love, how to use social media, how to use email marketing, how to keep the books in compliance with state and federal law, how to take good photos and edit them, how to support our affiliates, how to stay organized and use time as productively as possible..... It is a very long list. Please know, I am not complaining, I wouldn't want to be doing anything else.

We were invited to attend an awards ceremony in California but made the decision not to attend. It just didn't feel like the right use of our available funds. The truth is that even though I am excited to be recognized for the success, this is just not about me, or even Buy The Change, it's about the women we work with and how their lives can be better.
